What Biomass is used for

Examples of Biomass in Use

Scientists are genetically modifying strawberries in order to allow them to resist freezing temperatures better, and provide more energy. They're doing it by artificial transfer of genes from a species of fish called the Arctic Flounder Fish. The Arctic Flounder Fish produces an anti-freeze that allows it to protect himself in freezing waters. This will allow the strawberry to provide more energy from biomass.
They isolated the gene that produces this anti-freeze and introduced it to the strawberry. The result is a strawberry that looks blue and doesn't turn to mush or degrade after being placed in the freezer. While they're not in production, research is ongoing.

Cars:
There are people who use biomass everyday. There are kits you can buy to transform your diesel car to a biomass car. It can run on clean energy! You add vegtable oil, which is super cheap, and it works the same as gasoline (with the right equipment)! You can even get the vegetable oil from restaurants for free!

Altering:
Scientists are currently working on genetically altering a superplant which can survive in any weather and gives the most biomass energy. Currently they're working with poplars. Poplars have the anatamy that is perfect for the use of biomass. But, not only poplars are being used. People are trying it with other plants, even strawberries. The strawberries turned blue, but they gave a large amount of energy and were edible. The purpose of altering these plants is to get the most energy, but also to have the plant survive. It has so survive in many climates and living conditions.
